From Coffee to Community

It started simply—just a few doulas meeting over coffee.

Like many in this work, we were used to showing up for others: holding space, offering support, and walking alongside families through big, life-changing moments. But that day, we showed up for each other. We shared stories, asked questions, and spoke honestly about the joys and challenges of this work.

Something shifted.

We realized we weren’t just colleagues working in parallel—we were building trust, connection, and genuine friendship. There was relief in being understood without explanation, and strength in knowing we didn’t have to do this work alone.

Out of those conversations came a shared desire: to stay connected, to support one another more intentionally, and to create something that would not only sustain us—but also better serve the families we care for across Maine.

This Collaborative grew from that place.

By coming together, we’re able to offer more—more continuity, more resources, more thoughtful referrals, and more reliable support. When one of us is unavailable, another trusted doula can step in. When a family has specific needs, we can help connect them with the right fit. And behind the scenes, we’re learning from each other all the time.

At its heart, this work is about relationships.

And what began over coffee has become a community—one that supports not only doulas, but the families we are honored to serve.
